Models Own - Disco Mix and Mixed Up

I cannot emphasise how much I absolutely love both of these shades. On Friday night I tried Disco Mix, and my experience with Mixed Up has been pretty much the same.

Coat one - “Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck! I paid a fiver for this and there’s nothing to it! :,( :,( :,( etc.”

Coat two - “Oh. Oh, that’s quite nice actually.”

Coat three - “OMFG I’M IN LOVE!!!!!”

Mixed up:

Disco Mix:

Ahem, so, yeah. Magenta Divine is next on my to try list.As with all glitters, these babies need lashing of top coat to really seal the colour and stop me being chip paranoid.

In other news, today I also bought an exercise bike in my attempt to ditch the flab before I grow my own climate. 10k done so far, but now I’m pooped. Tomorrow will be spent making a workout playlist.

Nude Beige by Model’s Own.

This is one of my Saturday night purchases, which arrived yesterday morning beautifully packaged (and for free, yay) and screaming out to be painted onto anything. I chose to do so on my nails.

I really like this colour as a neutral day shade, it’s lighter than Mushroom, Barry M’s take on taupe, and is the red wine to Mushroom’s WKD. I’m not sure about how this will carry through as a night shade, but that’s what my new glitters are for. :D

Absolutely addicted to this song.

I’m pretty disappointed with Lavender by Barry M. I’ve painted two layers on top of Pale Purple (Barry M) and “underwhelming” doesn’t even cover it. I wanted disco sparkles and because purple’s everywhere right now. Lavender looked perfect, but my nails look more “8 year old party princess” than anything else at the moment. The clear polish has tiny pieces of silver glitter and a few pieces of the purple, averaging just six per nail. Baz, if you’re reading, swap the silver and purple and you’re in there.

On my quest for perfect purple glitter nails I’ve ordered Disco Mix and Magenta Divine from Models Own (along with five or six others…). At £5 a pop they’re fairly reasonable, and if you order only you get multibuy discount, so I paid £30 for 8 polishes. BARGAIN.

Tomorrow holds in store a trip to Gunwharf Quays with the mothership, and she’s paying. The Cosmetics Company, here I come!

(Apologies for the dodgy photo, having my thumb out of action makes using an iPhone very difficult.)

With yesterday being payday, I decided this month’s treat would be a new nail polish or six. After managing not to kill the Tweens blocking the Models Own stand, or orgasm at the sight of every single Barry M shade at their Topshop Oxford Circus concession let me introduce, from top to bottom:
Lavender, Barry M
A clear polish with large purple pieces, I’m not too sure if I could pull this off alone, but on top of Barry M Pale Purple it should hopefully look really good.
Silver Cascade, Barry M
Essentially, this is OPI’s Mad as a Hatter, with a pricetag a third of the size. Obviously it’s not going to apply so smoothly, and even with a top coat Barry M glitters tend to be gritty at best, and flaky at worst, but who could resist that shade?
Grape Sorbet, Rimmel
Part of the Lycra Pro range, the bottle boasts up to ten days of wear. Seeing as I always chip my polish on the second, if not first day, this will be interesting to try out. The shade itself is a sheer, dusty pink which I think is going to need a good few coats. The fan brush seems to give wide coverage, though, which is always good.
Pink Amazon, Rimmel
Another Lycra Pro shade, this seems to go on much better than Grape Sorbet. The shade is a really bright raspberry, with my main worry being that it’ll appear cheap. I reckon I’ll end up lining this with gold to give it an edge on every other hot pink everybody’s wearing.
Pure Purple, Models Own
I LOVE THIS. A dusty, grimy purple which gets darker as you layer it. I’m thinking painting this on heavily and pairing it with charcoal detail, or just the one coat and top it with Barry M Lavender.
In The Navy, Models Own
I always view blue nail polish with some trepidation, as trying to find the line between “twelve year old girl” and “corpse” is always a tricky one, but I think Models Own might just have nailed it. One coat gives your regular blue but two turns it into a really deep grey blue. This seems perfect as an alternative to black, which also seems a bit “twelve year old” if you can’t pull it off. I can’t wait to try it!

That’s a nice house. I could live there.

Me, passing the Royal Hospital for the Neuro-Disabled.

Ah.

#oneaday starts here, honest.

For reasons which I have yet to discover, I’ve put my hat in the ring to become an “AberInsider” blogger from September, where (if I’m picked, which I’m sort of hoping won’t happen because I’m not known for my commitment skills) I’ll be blogging about the experience of university.  This is my entry:

The “summer holiday” feeling has finally set in for the first time in four years. I’ve got no coursework, no stressful job hunt circa summer 2008, really no responsibilities at all other than twelve hours of work a week and trying not to set the house alight whilst I’m left alone in it.

Despite the fact I’m finally in the position I’ve wanted to be since I was 14 (secure job, university place, actually a legal adult who can buy alcohol and everything), I’ve still got a feeling of guilt that I’m not doing anything progressive with all this ample free time. So, after a conversation with a UCAS lady explaining that I lost my AS12 letter and no, I hadn’t started university yet, and yes, I’d be really careful with the new one, I headed off to sort out a student bank account.

Don’t scroll down expecting an essay – it was a piece of cake. In half an hour (printing problems notwithstanding) I was given a rather nice overdraft and a student credit card (which we will not be telling my parents about and I will not be using except for in an emergency, honest) and sent on my merry way, checking my balance on the way out and laughing all the way to the bus stop.

Now, if only I could get my course’s reading list and have something to procrastinate over…

Oh, and in true clichéd style, I found my original AS12 twenty four hours after grovelling for a new one. Typical.

Things I chose to omit from the above:

  • It’s the day before payday and I am SO VERY POOR #properadultfail
  • My banking adventures included a visit to Nationwide and a rather uncomfortable half an hour breathing through my mouth because the advisor absolutely reeked of fag ash, only to be told they wouldn’t be offering me a current account. Wankers.
  • I’m very much terrified at the prospect of being left in Wales to fend for myself. I might die.

Things which I really bloody want to buy tomorrow:

  • The OPI Summer Flutter mini set. Forget want, I NEED it!
  • Lush Fizzbanger – popping candy in a bathbomb, what more could you want?
  • Every single Model’s Own nail shade, especially the pink glitter one. Sigh.
